Over 12,000 professionals visited GastroPan 2011 exhibition - Romania!
The world of innovation and creativity in the bakery, confectionery and hospitality sectors moved to the city of Târgu Mureş (Romania) during March 18-20, 2011. GastroPan, the most important specialized trade fair in Romania, gathered more than 12,000 visitors, 92 exhibitors from 12 countries, demo shows supported by master chefs, bakers and confectioners, high class professional contests involving over 120 competitors, many prizes and surprises.
The event registered a sharp growth over last year, both in the number of exhibitors (increase of 46%) and the exhibiting area (+ 43%), which rose to a total surface of 5,000 square meters. The range of professional solutions for the activities of bakery, confectionery and food industry presented to the pits had a similar increase.
One of the main highlights at GastroPan 2011 was the series of professional competitions called “Show your skills”. Thousands of visitors and the media were attracted by hundreds of competing products shown by more than 120 specialists representing restaurants, bakeries and confectioneries from across the country and abroad. It took a surface of over 1,500 square meters only to display the various kinds of breads, pastry products and unique cakes, artistic creations from dough, sugar, marzipan or chocolate, esthetic sets of cold dishes or the impressive fruit and vegetable carvings.
The value of the trade fair was also given by the support shown by the most important international professional organizations. Attending the event, Peter Becker, president of International Union of Bakers (UIB), was pleasantly surprised by the scale of the exhibition, comparing its value and impact with other high quality trade fairs from Eastern Europe and even South-America or Asia.
The organizers wish to thank all the specialists, professional associations, visitors and exhibitors, who all brought their contribution in organizing one of the most valued exhibition in the Eastern European bakery, confectionary and hospitality industries.
The next edition of GastroPan International Trade Fair will take place in spring 2012.

In 2012 IPACK-IMA is set to be the pivotal global exhibition in the industry of technologies and materials for processing, packaging and material handling. The unparalleled technological level and the exhaustiveness of the display showcasing the world’s top-notch product offer for both food and non-food sectors have enabled the event to further establish an excellent reputation and crucial role with the Business Communities of its nine main target markets: Grain Based Food, Dairy Products, Beverage, Confectionery, Vegetables & Fruit, Fresh and Convenience Food, Health and Personal Care, Chemicals - industrial & home, Industrial & Durable Goods.
The next edition will be number twenty-two and will enjoy the prestigious leadership of one of Italy’s primary industrialists, Paolo Barilla. His name and background are tightly entwined with Italy’s leadership in the global food market. IPACK-IMA 2012 also boasts outstanding supporters including national bodies such as the Ministries of Economic Development and Agricultural, Food and Forestry Policy, as well as international organizations the caliber of the UN’s food agencies, UNIDO and the World Food Programme. This brings further prestige to the 2012 edition of the exhibition, which will in turn springboard IPACK-IMA 2015 towards its joint date with the Milan International EXPO.
During the presentation Diana Battaggia, Head UNIDO Itpo Italy, illustrated the Technology Innovation Award for Food Safety in Developing Countries, an initiative developed by UNIDO and WFP in connection with the packaging industry, which will have its culminating moment at IPACK-IMA 2012. This award will include three different categories: technologies and processes to guarantee food safety, innovative packaging to ensure food safety and innovative packaging for emergency situations. The award-giving ceremony will be held during IPACK-IMA 2012 in conjunction with the great international convention "Appropriate Food Technologies (AFT) for Food Safety and Food Security in African Countries", organized in partnership by IPACK-IMA, UNIDO and WFP.
“IPACK-IMA 2012 can already count on the participation of major names in the industry as early as one year from the opening day” says Ipack-Ima CEO Guido Corbella. “All major companies have already secured their areas, in addition to an impressive new subscription rate (20%). This remarkable performance anticipates the event’s oncoming success; an extensive exhibition surface and substantial investment to assemble machinery and full production lines on the fairgrounds signal IPACK-IMA’s key role as a product and technology showcase as well as a crucial opportunity for discussion and relation-building.
A cross–section of the product display shows packaging machinery as the largest segment (29%), followed by food processing machinery at 23% which increases to 28% when considering beverage machinery on display at the Bevertech area. The not-to-miss date at Fiera Milano will also be a chance to observe and compare different large-scale production lines, fully assembled and functioning for the entire public to see.
During the presentation, president Paolo Barilla emphasized IPACK-IMA’s key role on the markets it serves. This is an extremely significant acknowledgment especially in consideration of Paolo Barilla’s institutional role as president of AIDEPI, born from the union of the Association of Italian Pastry Industries and the Association of Industrial Pasta Makers.

SIGEP plays a world-leading role in the sector: one visitor out of five arrives from abroad. In the context of the project "Top Buyers from Five Continents", thanks to its foreign marketing strategies, and its network of sales correspondents, which has 35 offices worldwide, SIGEP ensures companies meetings with international buyers by means of the Rimini Fiera Marketplace, which organizes an agenda of meetings on the basis of the supply and demand,.
An international profile which, combined with the quality of the expo and events and the impressive media coverage (496 journalists accredited, over 100 million contacts in 2011), ensures enterprises and trade members an appointment that absolutely must not be missed.
In 2012 SIGEP will occupy 90,000 m2 with 750 companies. As well as the expo area, there will also be a program of exceptional events, starting with the traditional Idea Workshop (gelato), 1000 ideas for a new flavour (gelato), National pastry and chocolate junior under-22 Championship, Italian senior team Pastry Championship, SIGEP Giovani, SIGEP Bread Cup (bread baking), I Love Pizza, Tecpa (pasta), All Around Coffee, Sigift (decorations), Comunicando Award, etc.

“Olio Capitale” will be held again from 2 to 5 March 2012
The 2011 edition has recorded a participation of more than 6000 visitors, 1000 meetings between sellers and buyers coming from all over Europe, North America and Asia
“Olio Capitale”, the only fair in Italy exclusively devoted to extra virgin olive oil , looks ahead to the next edition in 2012: this exhibition of typical extra virgin olive oils will be held again in Trieste (Italy) from 2 to 5 March 2012 and its organization will still be coordinated by Aries, the Special Agency of the Chamber of Commerce of Trieste which will once again propose its original programme including not only business meetings and sales, but also tasting workshops and shows.
More than 6000 visitors and 1000 meetings between exhibitors and foreign buyers: these data by themselves may provide a tangible evidence of the success recorded this year by "Olio Capitale". The expo in Trieste, a privileged showcase for the Central and Eastern European Countries, has gathered this year exhibitors of brands and new products, among which chocolate and ice cream produced with olive oil, proposed by more than 200 producing companies from all over Italy, especially from the Italian Abruzzo and Apulia regions in addition to Spain, Portugal, Slovenia and Croatia.
This fair owes its international character also to the participation of visitors, catering sector professionals and enthusiasts of food and wine specialties coming in large numbers from bordering countries, especially from Austria and Slovenia; not to mention the participation of experts of the sector, among whom first of all buyers coming from all over Europe, USA and Asia. Sales during the fair, but more specifically the presence of so many guests and visitors who are becoming increasingly fond of such products and who are refining their taste and improving their knowledge of extra virgin olive oil, have been of determining importance in terms of the remarkable positive results for exhibitors.
“I commit myself to involving the 105 Chambers of Commerce in Italy and the 73 Italian Chambers of Commerce abroad in the forthcoming 6th edition, with a view to widening the network of contacts and relations”, has remarked Antonio Paoletti, Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce of Trieste. “We have always believed in this event, whose accent is exclusively put on olive oil without choosing other products such as food or wines, as a second choice, to reach success no matter with what product, as happens in other similar events. The name is self-explanatory: Trieste, the olive oil capital city, and exclusively olive oil, in a town marked by profitable trade business, and where both producing companies and exhibitors are duly safeguarded”. Visitors are attracted by a rich series of side entertaining events which at the same time spread the culture of healthy food and healthy eating, as witnessed by Emilio Cuk’s Cooking school.
A significant, self-explanatory, event marking this four day fair, in terms of attention devoted to dynamics affecting and involving the participants, was the presentation of the Italian olive oil “Manifesto per il Risorgimento”, an action plan to relaunch this sector, to stress the value of a product such as the extra virgin olive oil, which in the course of time received no real support from a trade-related point of view. Such action plan, whose Italian title refers to the Italian Resurgence movement, was illustrated to an audience of experts and professionals in the field by Luigi Caricato, oil specialist and director of “Teatro Naturale”, a media partner of “Olio Capitale” .
Within the framework of the fair, the “Olio Capitale Competition" also took place, with three olive oils selected by three different juries ( professional tasters' jury, cooks and caterers' jury and consumers' jury) with a jointly taken decision; the winners of 2011 are:
• Slightly Fruity Category : Farmhouse in Altomena (Pelago – FI), traditional organic
• Medium Fruity Category : Agrestis Agricultural Cooperative (Buccheri – SR), Bell'Omio Biologico
• Intense Fruity Category : Organic Agricultural Titone (Trapani), Dop Valli trapanesi
Special mentions :
• Consumers' Jury and caterers' jury : Potosi 10 SA, Jaen (Spain), Fuenroble
• Tasters' Jury : Organic Agricultural Company Titone, Trapani, Dop Valli Trapanasi
